Dell desktop XPS Beeping Not Booting Up

I bought a new Dell from Costco, 2 years ago, when i press the on button it makes 3 intermittent  beeping sounds in burst of 3 beeps but it does not turn on. How do i fix this?

Exactly which XPS? eg, XPS 8500, XPS 8700?

According to this, 3 beeps means:

3

Chipset Error (North and South Bridge Chipset DMA/IMR/ Timer Error for Intel platform); Chipset Error

System Board Chipset Failure

Time-Of-Day Clock test failure.

Gate A20 failure

Super I/O chip failure

Keyboard controller test failure.

You might try clearing BIOS:

  1. Power off, unplug, press/hold power button for ~15 sec
  2. Open case and remove motherboard battery
  3. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  4. Reinstall battery (right-side-up)
  5. Close case and try to boot

Note: You might want to replace the motherboard battery with a new one while you're in there. 3-volt CR2032 lithium ion battery, ~$2 at discount stores.

thanks Rohe

it happened that one of my memory cards was not sitting well. I opened it up and pushed back down on each memory chip, and my computer came back alive. thanks all.

Strange that you got a 3 beep error code if it was a RAM issue, but at least it's fixed.
