Dimension 3000 cpu upgrade
Hi, i've got a Dell dimension 3000. Had it for a while now and i've noticed that it's started to lag behind slightly (performance wise) compared to my 'old' pc.
I was thinking of perhaps changing the processor from the 2.66GHz celeron that is quite frankly poor upto say an intel pentium 4 3.2GHz cpu.
However, i've read a few external forums and they say that i'd have to get a new motherboard that's compatible with HT tech. Is the bog standard dimension 3000 motherboard able to cope with such a leap in technology? Reading the specs on dell.com tells me that the pentium 4 cpu does fit in the dim. 3000. Yet i'm still unsure about this matter..
Is it worth switching the cpu? Would i be able to change the cpu to that level? Am I able to put the 3.2GHz cpu into the current mb? any and all help is useful, thanks.

The Dimension 3000 does support Hyperthreading, see HERE
You can install any [Desktop] SOCKET 478 PROCESSOR <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Prior to installing the processor, update the BIOS to Version A03, when added support for newer processors was added.
Personally, I would not spend any money upgrading an older obsolete entry level, system like the 3000, but would put the money towards buying a newer desktop that supports PCI Express x16 video cards.
