Dimension 3000 no system sounds

Check the Sound settings in the Control Panel, to make sure all the outputs are set correctly.

all settings appear to be correct

It is the soundblaster live 24bit, there does not appear to be a windows icon for sound

What system sounds specifically are you referring to that aren't making sounds?

None of the system sounds are playing, new email,windows startup, windows close.

When I go to the sound sound devices and select windows default, a menu list of all sounds come up. I can select one and use the test button and the sound plays just fine. In normal use no systems sounds are heard, I have tried turning my speakers up to full volume to see if there is any slight sound but nothing at all.

The interesting part was about new user accounts having the proper system sounds  - luckily it would appear to be a fairly simple registry fix.

Glad it's working.  Wish I could get to that original thread (it seems to have disappeared) and see how in the world they figured that out :) .
