Dimension 9200 - Bulged Capacitors
I was cleaning my system (about a monthly event) and noticed I have many capacitors that are bulged and leaking. I have not had any random shutdowns or blue screens but have noticed a system slow down.
I know a couple years back I worked in PC tech support and this was common with the Dells we had running in our corporate environment. As this was a known issue Dell shipped us mainboards to replace the faulty ones (I must have changed 300 of them myself). The system (my personal one) is going on 7 years old, what are the chances of Dell sending a replacement board, if any still exist?
I am not overall impressed they skimped out on components again… my next system will likely not be a Dell and it will incorporate solid state caps. Booo Dell, shame on you, I should have known better so maybe shame on me?
This system has potential to run for many more years, but my experience with this fault hastens me into buying something rather quick before this one dies on me.
Anyone else having this issue?

I would say, that on a 7 year old system without a warranty, your chances of Dell replacing the motherboard for free, are next to nil. :emotion-6:

'Capacitor plague' afflicted the products of many manufacturers, including Apple.
Good used motherboards can be had on eBay for nominal sums.

Replacing the faulty capacitors with good ones fixes the issue.

Many vendors including but not limited to Apple, HP, IBM, INTEL, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Acer, Gigabyte, Biostar etc all had capacitor issues.
There were even car makers that had issues. Audi in particular had this with rear speaker system that could cause a fire in the car.
A fire broke out in the rear compartment and was extinguised. the fire was started by and limited to the bose speaker. There were also home systems recalled due to fire hazard from the bad caps as late as 2012

Solid state Capacitors do not eliminate the issue they make it worse. Tantalum capacitors turn into torches when they fail.
