Does dimension XPS-R400 system use priep power supply?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, but I got a big problem:

My old XPS-R400 system won't power up, the power supply fan doesn't even spin. Here is what I rencently did.

1. I upgrade my CPU use P3 1.4GHz use PowerLeap PL-ip3/T CPU  Upgrade kit. Everything works fine after the upgrade.

2. I replaced my old CD burner with a DVD burner, and I powered the system up with the cover open. System booted up correctly but Microsoft asks me to register my XP again. Well, in the process of the registering my XP, I accidentaly touch a power cable probably hit the floppy drive board, then the entire system powered off. And then I couldn't power up the system anymore.

I though I blew up the power supply, so I bought a ANTEC 350 W power supply( my original PS was 200 W), and pluged in the system, problem remains the same. I once heard that old Dell systems use proprietary power supply, is this true?

If the power supply is good, what could be wrong? hope not the mother board.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the power supply is proprietary - DO NOT connect a standard ATX power supply to that system without an adapter (http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/dellconverter.html).

It is difficult to say what happened - I'd try the converter with the new PS, and if it still doesn't work, chance are you fried the mainboard and very possibly the RAM as well.

Plugging a standard supply into the system probably fried your motherboard and cpu.

The Dell part number is 0009228C or use the Converter from PCNOISE.

Hi,

I also have an old system (dell xps-r400) that needs a replacement of the power supply. A new power supply from dell is alot more expensive than to buy a regular one from a computershop. Im interested in this adapter u guys talking about, can I only get it from pcnoise or can i get it anywhere else? The thing is, I dont live in U.S (I live in Sweden) and it would be great if I could find it cheap around here!

Thx!

There are several results in GOOGLE for this adapter. Here is a link to the results I got.

You will just need to check and see if any are able to ship to you. If you are lucky you will find a good one. Not sure if you could go to a local store for this just take a look and see.

You can email this company and see if they ship international. Look for "DellCv" under "OEM Replacement"  http://www.centrix-intl.com/
