Drives not Found on startup after RAM upgrade
I have an XPS 600 desktop. I had 2- 512mb RAM modules, which I removed and placed to 2- 1 Gb modules in the same slots. The 1gb modules are recognized in setup area (press F2). When I started up computer I initially got drive 3,4 not found, with press F1 or F2 options. Thank goodness it finds drive 0 the hard drive. If I press F1 it boots up fine but the DVD/CD ROM drives are non functional. Their lights go on when a disc is inserted but nothing happens. In device manager the DVD/CD ROM drives are missing (not listed). Unfortunately when I went into setup and saw some of the drives not turned on I turned them all on (which it said was default) then I got drives 1,2,3,4, 5 not found. HELP! Greg

It sounds like you bumped the IDE cable for the CD/DVD drives. Shut down your computer and open it back up and make sure the cable is firmly connected at both the drives and the system board.
The 600 is easy to knock the cables loose. I have done it myself on my sstep daughter 600 a few times and so has she.

That has solved the DVD/CD drive issue, the IDE cable was loose in the system board. Thank you !They are both working fine now. Now I still get the Drive 1,2,3 missing error on startup. Dlo I just go into setting and turn these off. I only have one hard drive. The DVD and CD drives are 4, and 5.
