Dual Monitor - DVI Monitor is Brighter than VGA Monitor (Dell 2001FPs, Radeon X300)

Hi
I have a Dell 8400, Radeon X300 dual-monitor DVI/Analog video card, and two Dell 2001FP monitors.

My DVI-connected monitor is noticeably brighter than the adjacent VGA-connected monitor---same issue if I reverse the cables (DVI is brighter output).  There does not seem to be any brightness adjustment on either monitor to make them the same.

Does anyone else have this issue?  Any suggestions on how to equalize?

Thanks.

I looked up the monitor instructions here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2001fp/EN/controls.htm

It says Contrast is not available in DVI-D. The analog VGA mode does have brightness and contrast. Contrast adjusts white intensity. You should be able to raise the contrast on the VGA connected monitor. Brightness control affects "black level" darkness. Try and see if you can match. (It sounds like you swapped monitors to see if they acted the same, and the brightness difference is not a monitor difference.)

Thank you--I did find the brightness and contrast controls on the VGA-connected 2001FP.  However, while I can match the brightness, I cannot fully get the VGA-connected 2001FP to be equal is brightness/contrast/quality to the DVI-connected 2001FP.  Normally, I wouldn't care except they are side by side and the difference is noticeable.

I'm wondering if anyone else with dual monitors on a Radeon 300 (analog/dvi) dual monitor card has this issue?  This is the first time I noticed a difference between DVI and VGA inputs on a DVI/VGA monitor.  The problem is clearly in the RADEON 300 graphics adapter since it exists (in reverse) if I switch the cable.

Thanks.

You could try adjusting your gamma/color, brightness and contrast using the ATI Control Panel display setting (color tab) to a higher (brighter) level and then back off on the one monitor brightness setting to compensate/match the other monitor.

I have had the same problem with dual 2000fp monitors.  I found a way for a quick fix.... right click the desktop, click properties, double ckick on the monitor icon that is analog or darker.  Go to color and you can adjust the brightness and color.

Another option is to buy a converter ($20) that changes your analog jack to a DVI out.  I am still looking in to this one to see if it will fix the digital vs. analog issue.  Anyone know if this will change the signal to digital and fix this "dim" problem????????
