Freezes on Blue Dell Screen

I have a dimension 4400 pc and occasionally (2 out of 3 trys) the pc will stop on the blue dell splash screen. It sounds like either the HD or floppy is intermittently buzzing/clicking at that point. If I wait for a period of > 5 minutes, the PC will sometimes boot up, but the "d" (primary slave) hard drive is not found. Everything is okay with the exception of the D drive being available. If I reboot, It will occasionally run through the process without a flaw and the d drive will reappear. I have checked all the cables and even swapped out the IDE ribbon and power connectors. Could this be a power supply issue. I ran exhaustive disk tests on the d drive and found no errors.

foxtrot1,
Based on what you posted this sounds like a pretty cut and dry case of your secondary hard drive having failed. Does the slave HDD have an operating system installed on it. If so, disconnect the IDE cable from both your hard drives and plug the end connector into the secondary drive, which will make it master. If the computer fails to complete POST or boots to a message like operating system not found or invalid/non system disk then you'll have confirmation.
