Freezing, blue screen problem with xps 720
where to begin... i have only had my xps for 5 1/2 months and in the past month i have had problems with my computer freezing up and now getting blue screen errors. at first it would just freeze in windows, then it started to even start freezing up in bios and even on the dell screen just as i started it.. ended up replacing the hard drive, motherboard, ram and video card over a 2 week time, seemed to be working fine until about a week ago, now i am getting blue screen errors and numerous apps in windows crashing and the occasional freeze up again.. also everytime i am able to log onto windows its like everything has reset to an earlier time.. my icons are never in the place i put them when i log off and windows defender always does the same updates everytime.. also i get the occasional window saying i need to activate windows, it has been sucessfully activated, or that i might not have an authentic copy of windows. i have run, or tried to run the diagnostic tool as it seems to freeze during the tests, i get the FPU error exception test failed, which i guess is 'normal' since its a problem with the test itself from the posts i have read.. i have also tried all the suggestions i have found on the dell site and still having issues.. is it possible a processor problem i have been having all along? thats about the only thing i havent had replaced so far.. i just have no idea what else it could be.

Interesting. I'm running into sort of the same issues. I have the same basic setup as you. Problem is, 4 GB OF RAM! Ever since Service Pack 1 came out, I've had various issues. I started getting lockups in games that had been playing just fine. I have two 8800 GTX cards in SLI and 4 GB of Corsair XMS2 ram. So, I took out 2 GB of ram, and everything ran great. I then noticed that due to a driver update, I wasn't running in SLI. So, I started playing. I first added back a stick of ram, and when I did the Windows Rating, it dropped from 5.6 to 4.8, because the ram went from a rating of 5.9 to 4.8. So, I put the other stick in, and the computer wouldn't start. Lights on and beeping is all it would do. Took the stick back out, booted. Switched to SLI, everything seemed fine. Shut down & added stick again, and she booted up normal. Then reran Windows Rating, and it's backu up to 5.6. However, games started skipping again. So, I removed one video card and two gigs of memory, and all is well. Games are smooth and no lockups or blue screens.
Now, how does this help you? Well, try removing your two gigs of ram first and see what happens. Then, I'm going to uninstall Service Pack 1. Then I'm going to call Microsoft.

PS. I don't have bad ram. My 8400 Core 2 is fine. My 8800 GTX cards are fine. This appears to be a software conflict of somekind. They changed something with the service pack, and went the wrong way.
