G33M03 (OFM586) motherboard

Will the G33M03 in an Inspiron handle a quad-core processor with an FSB of 1333? I was told in another

forum that it will only handle an FSB of 1066.  I'd love to upgrade my processor, but I'm not sure if I can.

I'd appreciate any assistance.

That didn't answer my question.  Will this motherboard handle an FSB of 1333?  I don't

want to drop 200 + on a cpu that doesn't work.  I know the difference between the ORY007

and the OFM586 with the voltage regulators.  I had a 530 with the ORY007 originally with the E6650

with an FSB 1333.  I just want to know for sure the OFM586 will handle 1333.

Yes, the 0FM586 motherboard will support a processor with a 1333 FSB.

Did you ever actually upgrade to a quad core?  I'd like to know if it really did work or not.

The "DELL RU305/NT270" heatsink is for the Inspiron 531/531S AMD processor, the heatsink for the OFM586 motherboard's Intel processor is a Dell P/N K078D.

The Issue is more than Bios.

The Heatsink for Hotter CPUS is different.

DELL RU305/NT270  I believe is the aluminum one without copper heatpipes.

The Power Supply is not 250w but rather 305W or 350W depending on which CPU is used.

Well I wasn't sure about that.

Point being that the hotter cpus have heatsinks with copper base and heatpipes and Higher wattage Power supplies.

This is true for Dimension or Optiplex or Precision etc.

Just updating the bios and popping in a faster CPU is NOT recommended and can cause damage

to smaller power supplies and will burn up with improper heatsink.

Maybe you could post the P/N of the heatsink used with the Core 2 Quad processors, as I always found the same heatsink/fan assembly used on both the Foxconn ORY007 and OFM586 motherboards, for both the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPU's.

Bev.

Ps. I know about the different power supplies as I've had 530 MT for 3+ years , but the OP was asking about motherboards, not PSU's.

I don't have a 530 on hand to reference.  Dell used to have parts lists in excel but they dropped that.

The power supply issue is the one that bites people the most because they buy the cheaper model and then update bios

and put the faster cpu in and it ends badly.

I still have a copy of Dell's Excel Parts List, but unfortunately the list I have, does not include the Inspiron/Vostro desktops.  :emotion-6:

Dell CPU Heatsink and Fan Assembly P/N K078D, is the same standard unit used for both the Celeron, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad systems, hence the reason for not replacing the heatsink when uograding the CPU.

Note. To improve the cooling inside the 530 MT case, I've added a 80mm case fan to the front panel air intake, primarily for the 9500 graphics card.
