Graphics card for Dell Dimension 8300

The graphics card in my Dimension 8300 has died. Looking for suggestions for a replacement.  PC still running Windows XP Pro SP3. Old card was an ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256Mb AGP (not AGP Pro). What current AGP card would be worth looking at?  Not a gamer, but a lot of graphics/iamge manipulation.  Ideally not looking top spend massively.  Tried a 3rd party card, but it had the wrong power extension (old card has a 4-pin Berg (Red +5v, Gnd, Gnd, Yellow +12v) connector, so looking for something compatible. Any suggestions welcomed!

All the Nvidia options will not be as good as what you have now with the 9800 XT.  As far as ATI goes, the HD 3650, HD 4650 & HD 4670 would be better.  There are not many choices with AGP cards anymore.  You may have better luck shopping on ebay.  A lot of these cards do not require any additional power connection like the 9800 XT does.  The best one which is the HIS HD 4670 does have the 4 pin connection.  For the money, I like the Gigabyte HERE and it also has the 4 pin. These two mentioned are the most popular by far.

Try Ebay for the same card. I don't think it's worth spending $90 on the old computer. I found this example-- www.ebay.com/.../230733543634 Check the seller reputation and read the feedback before you buy. Ebay is strictly Buyer Beware.

If the $90 will give you the functionality you seek, it's arguably worth it. Your old PC is still good for Web surfing, productivity applications, video playback, and even light gaming, provided its other parts are in good health. Windows XP will continue to be supported for two more years to come, and when that happens, if your PC is still working, you have the option of upgrading to Windows 7.
