How bad is the ATI Radeon X600 SE graphics card?

Question

Hello,   I just ordered my first Dell (E510) and got it with this graphics card.  I got the whole computer at just a little above what I had budgeted for it, so I figured I could just upgrade the card later when I have the money if needed to a more powerful NVIDIA card or something like that.  I'm new to this kind of stuff and never had a computer with a graphic card so don't know much about them.  Unfortunately,  I just read through the faq a minute ago I apparently won't be able to upgrade the card unless I upgrade the power supply since I need a min. 350 W supply and this computer only has 305W.    Anyway, I don't really play any games, except for online poker.  Will this Radeon graphics card do?  I do a lot of web surfing and possibly want to watch/edit HD video.  If I don't use this computer for games, would there be any noticable difference between a top of the line NVIDIA card?  Or is the difference only noticeable in games?    Thanks,   Jason

even though the X600SE is not top of the line card, by what you are expressing your need to upgrade is not feasible at all you will notice no difference at all between a top end card and this card doing the things you do on your computer... now there is one thing the Video editing maybe someone with more knowledge will know this but i think that is mostly processor power that does that unless you are doing some rendering than that is a totlally different story.   In short no you do not need an upgrade.

That video card is just fine for what you do, and later, if you really want to play games, you can purchase another card and perhaps for less cash, since they do go down in price over time... Your 305 power supply can handle some cards, that state they need something higher without issues.  Just come back here and we can advice you on our experiences with different cards and power supplies

Thanks for the quick response!  Make me feel better :smileyvery-happy:  I was reading a lot of negative stuff about this card and wasn't sure if it applies mainly to games or if it was for overall quality.  Can't wait for the computer, 6 days and counting!
