Inspiron 560 Auto Power On & Wake On LAN Not working

Inspiron 560 (Late 2009). BIOS A06.

Setting the BIOS to Auto Power On at a certain time every day has no effect. Machine stays off.

Setting BIOS to allow wakeonlan and then sending a magic packet does not start a powered off machine.

In both cases, power is connected and the green LED below the power cable socket is illuminated.

However, if the machine is a sleep state ('suspend' from linux), then the wakeonlan magic packet will wake the machine up.

Are are there known problems with this machine/BIOS in this area? Are there any workarounds?

I have tried pretty much every combination of BIOS settings I can think off. I have reset the BIOS. etc. No joy.

I have 2 identical machines and they both behave the same way.

Thanks for any suggestions.
