Inspiron 660s Graphics Card Upgrade

Question

Hi,

I have an Inspiron 660s with an intel i5 processor and and i was wondering what graphics cards would work well with its power supply and that fit in the small frame of the desktop. I heard the Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 low profile card was good but I was wondering about other cards as well.

Hi jumar81,

Dell has tested the following graphics card with Dell Inspiron 660S system:

NVidia GeForce GT 620 Low Profile
AMD Radeon HD 7570 Low Profile

You may refer to the Owner's Manual for steps on replacing the hardware components. Please follow the safety guidelines.

Hi jumar81, The inspiron 660s comes with 300 watts and the Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 requires 450 watts. This system was tested with AMD Radeon HD 7570 and it’s compatible with this system.

Hello You say 'The inspiron 660s comes with 300 watts PSU ' - i thought it was only a 220W unit !? To make it clear - can we install the Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 in the Inspiron 660s whit its original  PSU? If not, can we upgrade the PSU with at least a 350W unit? The card on average will only use 30-40 watts.  I would get it and not worry about it.  The only damage you'll see to the motherboard is if you happened to spark it installing the video card.  Otherwise, I don't see a problem.

I tried installing a Sapphie HD5570 into mine, thought it would be plug and play, I want to run 2 monitors from the card (it has in the past on another computer) and 1 monitor using the on-board memory (total of 3), but the screen said since I had a card installed that I needed to unplug the one connected to the on-board video connector (I was using the HDMI connector).

When I did that, I got nothing on either of the other 2 monitors, so I removed the video card and tried going back to the on-board video connector with one monitor and no video card, and got an error (no matter how long I wait or how many times I forced a reboot): Error C0000034 applying update operation 251 of 112980 (_000000000000...) It never goes away.

I'm going to have to resort to the rescue disk to get it back working now. So what's the correct procedure to install a 3rd party video card then???
