Installing 32-bit OS on a 64-bit Alienware Area 51
Apologies upfront if this has been asked before but here goes...
I'm thinking of buying a new Alienware Area 51 (non-ALX) desktop. These days Dell only appear to sell 64-bit machines. I want to run Windows 7 Ultimate in 32-bit mode on it and believe I will have to buy the full version of Ultimate to be able to do this? I don't want to upgrade the default 64-bit Home Premium I'd rather do a clean install.
As a fallback option, can I install a 32-bit version of Window XP Media Center Edition on a 64-bit machine? The fallback option being in case I run into too many compatibility issues with Windows 7.

Retail Versions of Windows 7 come with both 32 bit and 64 bit DVD for install. OEM versions do not.
However You can request a copy of the version you want.

The "What Do I Buy" section is where you should post your "what do I buy" question.
In reference to 64 bit vs 32 bit. 32 bit applications run without problems in the 64 bit OS. I have many 32 bit programs that I use.
XP on a Windows 7 hardware system can be an issue as many times there are no XP hardware drivers available.
I sense you want to run older Windows XP applications. Many XP applications will run under the Windows 7 64 bit native mode. There are compatibility modes available and even Virtual XP modes that will run under Windows 7.
However, post on the What Do I Buy section, and be more specific with what your application needs are.
