Line In listed as 'Currently Unavailable"
I have a Dell Dimension 5150, loaded with Windows 7 in 64 bit. For months now, I have had the same issue no matter what drivers I load. I currently have the 5150 drivers, Sigmatel Audio. The microphone (pink) jack works fine, as well as the speaker (green) jack. However, the blue (line in) jack does not ever want to function. It is always listed as 'currently unavailable' but not with the faded icon with the red arrow pointed downward, to indicate there isn't anything plugged in. Rather, it's in full color, no arrow or check mark of any kind, and, Currently Unavailable. I cannot get it to read anything else.
Does anyone have any suggestions so I can get this working again? I've also attached a screenshot of the box.

Hi Cameron,
Right click the line-in device and see if you can select enable. Or try properties and see if there is anywhere that allows you to enable the device.

That's the strange thing, the device is enabled. I've looked high and low, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. I can't get it to work, and I even checked the hardware side of things. That's all okay, but it's like the computer itself does not recognize it's there.

If you plug a device into that port, does it work?

It does not. I can disable, enable, restart, unplug and replug, and no matter what I do; it's state will refuse to change.

What if you make it the default recording device?

I did some looking around and pretty much the only advice is to reinstall the driver, which you've already tried. So I'm kind of short on ideas at this point.

Well, thank you for responding anyway. Line In isn't something I have to have. Thank you for your help.

Set the line in as the default device and default device for communications then set this back to whatever you had before, My line in worked but played through my speakers and not my headset, I couldn't change where it played because it was unavailable but making it the default then changing back to my other defaults fixed the problem for me, Hope it works for you, Weird fix to a weird problem.
Also yea came here looking for help fixed it by messing around while reading these posts

I have this same issue. It hadn't been a problem until now. I have a Latitude D830 running Windows 7 Professional N. For the little I needed a mic, I just used the one on the laptop or the mic array on my external monitor. I have a need to record using a mic that is neither of these in order to eliminate all of the room echo and background noise.
I have tried all of the things listed here and nothing has worked. What more can I try to resolve this?
