Message on screen after attempting to change PSU

Assuming you reconnected the original power supply correctly, that would seem to indicate a memory module problem.  Reseat the memory modules then power back on and see if anything changes.

I have reseated all for RAM modules but it is still the same I changed graphics card and he same thing happens except the message changes to the info about the new graphics card but in either case my computer still freezes in that black screen

memtest86+ is free and has instructions to make either a bootable CD or bootable floppy disk.

You might want to try clearning NVRAM (= reset BIOS to factory defaults). If the motherboard battery is weak, BIOS settings may have gotten scrambled when you disconnected the PC from the wall and removed the power supply. And if that solves the problem, you probably need a new battery.

You might try to find a boot up floppy or CD that includes a memory testing program.  Hiren's Boot CD has 4 memory testing programs on it,   I can't tell if it's for sale (I checked Hiren's website and there is no mention of price  or even downloading), but I know it's available on file sharing (using u-Torrent, etc...).  I'm sure there are other sources for memory testing programs that you can put on a boot disk or CD.

I'm sorry I have an XPS 420

and i downloaded the freeware and burned the ISO to a CD but nothing happens the screen just stays black with "113-B16903 - 103 RV610 GDDR2_16Mx16 64bi" in white on the top left corner of the screen. I do not know if i forgot to plug something back in with the power supply I have searched the computer countless times for something I might have missed but so far I havent found anything

I have the same problem. Tried all 4 RAM mods in slot 1 and slot 2 booted up fine. Slot 3 and 4 no boot makes a buzzing noise with startup. Do I have a bad slot? How do I resolve? You mention color. What does that mean? Slot 1 and 3 are Black. Slot 2 and 4 are white. ( counting from the top down ). PC running with RAM in slots 1 and 2 now. Is this bad?

Assuming your system uses DDR2 RAM, you're supposed to install it in matched pairs to take advantage of the extra speed of DDR2. That's why the slots are color-coded. If you have 2 modules, you'd put them in slots 1 and 3 (black). If you have 4 modules, you'd put the others in slots 2 and 4 (white).

Not clear -to me- what you've tested. Does it boot with RAM modules in slots 1 and 3, not just 3 alone (with 2, 4 empty)? Or are you testing slots 3 and 4 with no other modules?

It's not "harmful" to use RAM in slots 1 and 2, but you do lose the speed advantages of DDR2. If it fails to boot with all 4 slots populated, either you have bad RAM module(s) or the motherboard slot(s) failed.

Ron,

Dell XPS 420 came with slots 1 and 3 with Samsung 521MB 1Rx8 PC2 - 5300u. Slots 2 and 4 with Elpida 1G 1Rx8 PC2-5300u.

Get Black screen with code 113-B16903-103 RV610 GDDR2_16Mx16 64bi. On top of CPU message reads "Memory modules are detected, but a memory failure has occured".

Was able to boot up with:

1) either Ram Mod in slot 1

2) either Ram mod in slot 2

3) either combo of Ram Mods in slots 1 and 2 only, currenty using PC in this format so it will work ( 1 512 MB in slot 1, 1 1G in stot 2 ).

Unable to Boot up with:

1) either Ram Mod in stot 3 and 4 only or combo of both

2) any combo including all slots with a Mod in 3 or 4

Is this a Motherboard issue (Bad Slots)? Or do you think it's a Mod issue?

How do I fix?

Should I put both 1G mods in slots 1 and 2 instead of the mix match?

It probably wouldn't boot -even if everything works correctly- if slots 1 and 2 are both empty, so putting modules only in 3 and/or 4 probably doesn't tell you much.

Have you tried slots 1,2,3 or slots 1,2,4 as 3-somes? That might tell you which slot went south. Either way, it sounds like there's been a failure in slot 3 or 4. Look closely at both of them to make sure none of the contacts are bent. You might try spraying some electronic contact cleaner in those 2 slots. (Wipe up any excess that may land outside the slots.)

And if that doesn't help, it sounds like you may need a new motherboard. But at least you can still run with slots 1 and 2 populated. You'll have less RAM and it won't run as DDR2, but it will run. I'd go with 1 GB modules in both 1 and 2, just to maximize the RAM that is accessable, even if it's not running as DDR2.

You might google around to find better prices. 

Or, you can look on ebay (but, buyer beware!)

This thread is 3+ years old, so that might say something...

Hardware fails. It's just a fact of life. RAM isn't very expensive these days, so you can replace the pair of modules for lots less than the cost of a new PC.

Recently my XPS 420 also showed up with a sign 113-B169103-103 RV610 GDDR2_16Mx16 64bi. Is this a problem associated with large number of such computers or an isolated occurence.
