Monitor goes into sleep mode when using DVI cable on restart
Two weeks ago I tried to restart my computer after a Kaspersky 6.0 update and it froze, so I powered it off manually and then back on again. I use a DVI cable for my monitor and every time I restart it would go into sleep mode - so I can't do anything. So I plugged a VGA cable from a second monitor into my second video card (after the DVI failed on both cards) and it worked. The monitor with VGA cble comes on maybe every other time now, but I've had all kinds of problems every time I gotta restart the computer.
- First time it happened I was getting a Volume is dirty message and it was freezing at 3% of CHKDSK, but I suspected that could've been from all the reboots and faulty shutdown)
- Monitor goes into sleep mode on restart (DVI cable 95% and VGA cable 50% of the time)
- BIOS froze a few times when using coldboot
- PATA drives 0 and 1(dvd+dvdrw drives) not detected by BIOS, I disabled them and still had freezing bios/monitor in sleep mode
- Last time I booted it sucessfully, it didn't work twice in a row after my last change (removed somewhat recently added RAM), then I tried it again just for fun and it worked.
- USB ports stopped working first time it was booted, but keyboard/mouse was not affected
Anyone know what could cause this intermittent problem? Computer works fine once it is booted, except last 2 times I tried to restart it hung at the Logoff screen and had to manually power down. I'm too scared to reboot again and test it until I figure out what's causing it. It is an XPS 600 running Windows XP SP2 with latest BIOS revision A11, USB keyboard/mouse.
