Motherboard temperature on XPS720
Hi, i have since two months a XPS720 and i'm really happy with this computer, it's great! I have no problems at all and everything runs fine.
Today, just by curiosity, i installed the "Nvidia System Tools with ESA support" version 6.02 and launched the Nvidia System Monitor which is part of it, in order to see the temperatures on my pc.
It shows for my Q6600 cores : 37, 38, 35 and 32 °C, which seems fine, 63 and 59 °C (145 and 138 °F) for my two 8800GT, and 75 °C (167 °F) for my motherboard.
Of course, i don't run any programs when i check these temperatures, it's with only Vista SP1 launched. I precise that i never opened the BIOS, not even to "see" it, so i didn't make any modifications to my original configuration. I always have the latest drivers installed.
Like i said, everything runs fine and i am really happy with this computer. I just wonder if the motherboard temperature is normal. For the gpus' i don't know. Thanks for your help and sorry for my poor english.

If that is the system temp then it is very high. That temp should be very close or lower than the processor temps.
I will check mine later this afternoon when i get home from work. What version of th Nvidia monitor are you suing?

Like i said in my message, the last version, 6.02, downloaded on the nvidia website at http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.02.html
And for the previous post, remember that i don't have a watercooled pc, my xps 720 is not a H2C one. Maybe it is the explanation?
Grrr, i shouldn't have checked these temperatures, all was fine and now i'm worried :smileysad:

75C seems way too high for the MoBo.
Current idle temps on my 720 using Nvidia System Monitor...
System temp = 26C
GPU 1 = 55C
GPU 2 = 56C
CPU 1 = 42C
CPU 2 = 47C
CPU 3 = 43C
CPU 4 = 46C

I just checked again and i discovered that there are two temperatures for motherboard, in nvidia system monitor: MCP temperature (i have 75 °C) and System temperature (i have 26 °C). Is it fine?

MCP is your motherboards chipset I believe. I know that anything over 60C considered high. You might want to pull the cover off the side of your box and make sure that the little fan mounted on top of the MCP is actually spinning.

That is a newer version than i had running. It appears that they must have added the MCP temp as the older version did not have that.
If i get brave I will download and run it. I am not that fond of the software and have not been since i got my system. Casued a lot of issues..
I use Coretemp to monitor the CPU and GPU-z to monitor the graphics card.
I too have an non H2c system. The H2C would only affect the CPU temps which yours are right on target.
There is no fan on the 680 chipset. only the heat sinks. The chipset is directly behind the processor fan on the mother board..
The big block just to the right of the CPu socket is one half of the chipset the block next to that is the other half( northbridge and southbrige makes up the whole chipset.)

My H2C actually has a small factory mounted fan on the chipset located adjacent to item #12 in your picture above.

Ok, so we have the same temperatures. I suppose they are fine, since we have roughly the same rig. Thanks :)
