Need help with how much RAM/GB I need !!!
I am about to purchase a new desktop, just not sure how much RAM or GBI will need. Maybe some of you can help me . I have Photoshop CS4, Lightroom 2, and Adobe Illustrator. With that being said how much Memory do you recommend that I will need in order to make all these programs perform correctly, and not be slow? I also upload alot of photos.
I looked around on Dell website and found the Inspiron 580 @ $ 799.99. It has 1TB, and 7200RAM ( I;m not sure how much GB that would be?) So do you think the Inspiron would be sufficient??
Oh yeah... Walmart has the Dell- Inspiron i570-5378PBK, 23" Widescreen flat panel, AMD Athlon 11X4 630, 6GB Memory,1TB Hard drive, DVD+Rw Drive, WIndows 7 (64-Bit) for $798.00 ................ Guess thats a pretty good package for the price also , huh ?

Hi Breezebay,
The Inspiron 580 description, where it says 1TB and 7200RPM (mot RAM), it's referring to the size and speed of the hard drive.
I think most new system with Windows 7 come with 4-8GB of RAM, which is adequate for your needs.

If the 7200RPM is speed, then how much RAM ro GB does the Inspiron 580 have? AND.. is the Intel Core a good processor ?

RAM is the memory. (Random Access Memory) As Osprey has said: The 7200 is the speed at which the hard drive platters spin-> 7200 revolutions per minute. The 1 TB is the storage capacity of the hard drive-> appx 1000 GB. The i series is about the newest Intel family of processors. They offer the i3, i5 and i7. And yes they are very fast!
If you are going to invest in a new system I suggest yu set your budget, however much that is, and buy the most computer you can.Components are almost always cheaper when in a new system as opposed to upgrading later. (Unless you upgrade MUCH later) So if you can afford a little more get a little more RAM and see what the i7 does to the price. You most likely don't need all that,now, but new software will come out with higher requirements. You can count on that!!

Go for the Windows 7, 64 bit version and 8GB of RAM. Graphics programs can be memory intensive and the 64 bit OS will allow using more than approx 3.5GB of RAM (32 bit OS cannot fully address 4GB of RAM).
What Jeff told you is what I tell my clients "buy as much as your pocketbook can stand" and "buy overkill".
