No video in bios startup

I have a dell OptiPlex 760 small for factor desktop that I was using trouble free for a few month but I cant get it to display video during bios startup. the only video it ever showed was after Windows started booting. I pulled the backup battery out and put it back in in hopes it would clear the problem but it didn't . I'm guessing I have to re enter some bios settings before windows will boot again now because when I hit the power button the fans  and lights start up like normal but I cant do anything because there is absolutely no video output. If someone could help me figure out how to fix this problem it would be great , if not I would be more then happy if someone could tell me how to boot windows with the blank bios screen and I would use it like before.

I know this is an older post but just FYI on how to resolve this... I came across this issue and you simply need to install the latest Chipset and Video drivers from the Dell Driver Downloads. These units use an integrated graphics interface. Running the Intel updates also flashes new firmware to the integrated adapter which will allow it to work with newer monitors. Once you've installed both packages, reboot the pc and you will have your boot video restored.

It also wouldn't hurt to update your BIOS to the latest A16 version. Even though it isn't listed in the available downloads for your system, you can find it here:

I also just ran into this issue and like you I was using a DVI to VGA adapter, removing that adapter and connecting to a DVI monitor solved my problem. I am hoping the other posters suggestion about up dates to the drivers updates the GFx card firmware puts a end to VGA not working under the BOIS screens.

BTW: I have 8 USFF 760s this is the only one exhibiting this behavior.

I seen this thread but I can't seem to find the answer to the orginal question.  The BIOS screen is not displaying and I am having this same issue.  It boots fine to windows login screen however I need to select a boot device to reload system and I can't get the BIOS screen or any type of post screen to appear.  I only have DVI connectiong and it is connected to a DVI monitor from Dell.  This is optiplex 760.  I can't even get the F8 screen to appear to select safe mode.  When I press F2, F12, Del, F8 the system stops booting up like it is going into BIOS but nothing displays. The cable and monitor work fine.  I really need to get into the BIOS.  Any advice would be great.

Specs: Win XP, No lights on back of system, It is a touch screen monitor, I don't have a VGA port,

Are you intending to reinstall XP or to update to a newer OS? If you just want to reset to the factory image (assuming it's on your hard drive). Put the XP installation disk in the drive and close the drawer. Reboot and quickly press/hold Ctrl key and then the F11 key. Release both at same time and it should access the PC Restore feature which will reset the hard drive to exactly the way Dell shipped it - again, assuming you have a restore partition on the drive and you haven't reformatted or replaced the drive.

It that doesn't work, you might want to remove the motherboard battery and press/hold power button for ~30 sec and then reinstall the battery.  That should clear BIOS and potentially allow you to press F2 at boot to enter BIOS setup.

Either way, all your personal files have to be backed up on external media first or you'll lose them. And you'll need all your software installation disks and product keys to install them again after either PC Restore or a clean install.

I want to be able to install linux and other OS on the system as needed.  The system does not have a restore partition anymore it is a replacement drive.  I removed the battery and held the button still nothing on boot up.  I am going to start over and try to test everything again and work from scratch to see if I have missed something.  Thanks for the advice.
