OptiPlex 745 with chipset Intel Broadwater Q965 don't support PENTIUM DUAL CORE E6300 2.8GHz

Hi all. Does anybody know why this computer doesn't accept this new CPU? Basic CPU for this computer is ok (E4300@1.86GHz) but "new" 6300@2.8GHz is not working.

After turn on will three diagnostic LEDs (1-3-4) are light up. That's all. No POST, no boot, nothing.

I was searched for supported CPUs for Q965 chipset and found that this CPU (E6300) is supported without problems. But not for my OptiPlex.

Why? In another computer is this "new" CPU working without problem.

Please help.

mdiskuze,

You cannot use the retail Q965 chipset specifications for Dell OEM (original equipment manufacturer) chipsets. Our chipset on the 745 series supports the following -
745
DT893 Conroe E6300, 1.86GHz, 2MB, 1066FSB, B2
DU362 Conroe E6300, 1.86GHz, 2MB, 1066FSB, L2

745c
DU362 Conroe E6300, 1.86GHz, 2MB, 1066FSB, L2

745e
GT825 Conroe E6300, 1.86GHz, 2MB, 1066FSB, L1

OK, Thanks.

So another question - is ANY possibility to run this CPU inside my SFF case with other components which is currently used? Something as change motherboard ...

Or possibility to buy classic motherboard.

Thanks for reply

hi mdisukze,    I don't know whether you problem had been solved.  I have the same question with you when I attempted to use a Pentium Dual core e5200 to instead the old Pentium 4 640, but the computer doesn't have any post or display.

So I checked the supported list from Intel, and I ' ve found the key is the lithography(manufacturing process), the lithography of all supported CPUs of Q965  is not more advanced than 65nm. And the lithography of your new CPU(E6300@2.8GHz) is a 45nm Pentium Processor(although is a Pentium:emotion-1:), but the "E6300" which listed in the supported CPUs for Q965 is actually refers to the Core 2 duo E6300 (@1.86GHz), and that  is a 65nm Processor.

Hi mdisukze, I upgraded dell 745 sff and towers to quad intel Q6700's with no heat or power supply problems and video cards to used dell hd 7570...please check my extremly high geekbench scores at:  http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/1332101     http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/chart?q=model%3A%22Dell+Inc.+OptiPlex+745%22

Here also lists of users with different cpu's scores. Plays Bf3 better then my phenom x4 9950 with same video card. Amd x4 9950 passmark @ 2950, Intel Q6700 passmark @ 3362 explains the difference. Upgrading to HD 7750 video cards improves high end game playability, such as SAPPHIRE 100357LP Radeon HD 7750 will fit SFF with no power problems. Best upgrade ever for a Dell 745 makes them perform like newer Dell quads and better the some of them.
