Optiplex 755 Win 7 - Can't install use USB WiFi adapter (TP-Link)
Hello,
I recently obtained an old 755 desktop. I installed a genuine copy of Windows 7, only issue is I'm trying to use a wireless TP-Link USB WiFi adapter but it's not being recognized.
When plugging in and looking at device manager, it shows a driver missing for (80211n NIC), obviously I can't connect to the internet to let windows look for driver. I downloaded the drivers and software from TP Link's website for this specific model (TL-WN725N) but it can't install because it shows it does not recognize/see a USB adapter plugged in.
There is no wireless card in this computer, so when trying to install Dell's 802.11 drivers it can't finish installing either as there is no Dell or compatible wireless card.
I'm kinda stuck! I don't have any space near my router for a desk, so I can't plug it into an Ethernet cable (those drivers did install correctly)
Just seeing if anyone is messing around with one of these old computers and ran into this.
Thanks,
- Joel

The TL-WN725N Version 1 uses Realtek RTL8188CUS chipset.
The TL-WN725N Version 2 uses Realtek RTL8188EUS chipset
Usually RTL 8192 chipset drivers are backwards compatible with the older chipsets.

This is not a dell product and not supported here.
Windows 8 and Windows 10 support this device out of the box.
