It's virtually impossible overclock a Dell system.
Check out this link, but for the speed achieved, it's really not worth the effort, plus it states that the procedure will not work on all Dell systems.
How high you can overclock depends on a lot of factors. First is the stepping of the CPU, second is the motherboard. The Dell motherboard is lock so you have 2 choices. Use a overclocking software program like describe in Bev's post or do a pin mod to fool the motherboard into thinking you have a 533 fsb instead of 400fsb. Your motherboard has to support 533fsb to do this and you may need ram that will do PC 2700. You can connect the BSEL 0 pin and the BSEL 1 pin by putting a fine piece of wire as a jumper between the 2 pins. You do this by placing the wire in the 2 coresponding spots in motherboard sockets. If you computer doesn't boot or is unstable, it means your processor will not run at this speed with default vcore settings. You can do do a pin mod to raise the vcore but then, you'll most likely need a better heatsink. I have a P4 2.0 D1 stepping that runs at 533fsb at default settings. I had it overclocked to 3.2G with watercooling. If you want to try the jumper, you can do a search on google for "P4 BSEL mod".
Just curious Freda, would that not void the Dell warranty? I have no idea, that is why I am asking.

Hi,
You cannot overclock a Dell.
If you need more performance, add more memory, faster hard drives and a better graphics card.
maybe even tell us what model computer you have and what O/S.
