PC Running low on resources

My PC sometimes won't run MS Word and comes up with a error messare - saying system is running low on resources.

Having closed all necessary programmes, etc, and only running the minimum, and then running system monitor and allocated memory, I find the PC is running constanly on around 146m out of 244m, I am told this should be running at a lot less with only the minimum programmes open.

Use System Configutaion Utility (Msconfig). Go Here for more help:

Also search for anything that has normal.dot on your computer and DELETE IT it is an error. This is most likely the problem. -Greg

sstubbs,

Note that resources and memory have nothing to do with each other in Windows 98 and ME. The memory allocation you are seeing is normal, as windows will try to use as much available physical memory as it can before it uses the slower virtual memory. The error you are getting could be caused by a virus, in particular, the nimda virus causes errors like this. Make sure your virus definitions are up to date and do a full system scan.

What version of Windows are you running? Have you taken gdsykes advice and eliminated all of the unnecessary programs that run in the background and running from startup? Does the problem only occur in MS Word? Post back with some answers and we can go from there.

We are running win ME, and have tried all that has been suggested.

It only happens with Word, all other programs run OK.

Thanks
