PS2 adapter does not work with my Dell USB mouse

I have a precision 360 workstation with an USB optical mouse from Dell (on it, its is written in small characters it is from Logitech, MOUSE M-UVDEL1). The problem is I have a KVM switch (from Dell also) with PS2 port only. I expected to use a standard USB to PS2 converter (from my Intellimouse Explorer mouse), to connect it but it does not work !

I tried the mouse + the adapter directly on my PC PS2 port and it does not work also. What is the matter ? Does Dell/Logitech USB mouse does not support PS2 conversion (even a no-name PS2 mouse does it !). I am really annoyed because I can not use my KVM switch as a consequence...

Does anybody experimented the same problem ? Is there a solution ?

Thanks

I have the exact same problem. My PS/2 KVM switch is controlling my new D600 laptop and an older compaq desktop. I can not get the new USB mouse or USB keyboard to work with the PS/2 KVM switch. I would love to use the USB stuff, but it just won't work. I have searched the internet, but to no avail. I would think someone would have found a solution to this as there are a lot of USB keyboard and mice out there know and plenty of KVM switches. Please let me know if anyone finds a solution.

I've stuck with the Dell optical mouse because I grown so used to it.  I've attached this to the usb port on the pc, and then have a seperate ps/2 mouse for the kvm switch.  It's not ideal, but my desk is big enough for two mice!

I got a response from Dell support saying

"Hi,

I'm afriad that kind of configuration is not support by us, the usb mouse is supplied to work directly from the USB ports

Rgds

Dell Workstation support"

Thanks very much for your after sales support Dell!!  Normally they've been great with 'faulty' equipment etc etc, but on this one they don't seem to care.

Pffffff... It is strange but I am not surprised from DELL after sale. They do not even know the specification of what they sell, so providing a technical information, or better, a technical solution, to solve an issue caused by their stuff, would have been a miracle.

Finally I connected my good old Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer with a PS2 adapter : at least it works !

DELL support answer correctly, though they do not even know the specification .I agree.

The technical solution from me:some del usb mouse not support usb-ps2 adapter due to no usb-ps2 function chip inside mouse.

God forbid you have an OS X server in the rack.... The Dell KVM locks up when connected with an OS X server via a USB - PS2 convertor.... Will update if support has any brainstorms...
