Parallel Port Dongle for Dimension 9100

Question

Does anyone know how to make parallel port dongles work with a Dell Dimension 9100 computer? This PC has no parallel port. I purchased a PCI parallel port board from Dell. It did not work with an Aladdin Hasp dongle.   I first contaccted SIIG, the manufacturer of the PCI parallel port board. They said it won't work with dongles. I then contacted Aladdin. They said that the software expects the parallel port to be at I/O addresses 378h 278h or 3BCh.   USB to parallel port adapters probably won't work because they are unidirectional. Also, many of them have a Centronics connector instead of the DB-25 connector used by the dongle.   I have 5 applications that require DB-25 parallel port dongles:   application                                    dongle manufacturer    dongle model Altera MaxPlus II                            ? Ascent Capture uses Rainbow's Sentinel system drivers to communicate with the parallel port hardware key/dongle. If you have purchased a computer that does not come with a built in parallel port and you are installing a PCI Parallel Port card in your computer, this document will explain how to get this to work with Ascent Capture and the Rainbow dongle/drivers.

Rainbow is the name of the vendor that produces the Sentinel Pro dongle that Ascent Capture uses for licensing. Kofax is reliant on Rainbow's Sentinel drivers and Rainbow's procedures in order to interface with the dongle.

Rainbow has tested and certified the following two parallel port cards with Windows 2000:

You may also wish to consider another option if you're thin or non-existent on open PCIs like me (they go fast)! Take a look at the Axxon PCIe I/O cards at www.softio.com. I'm running thier model #IC0652KB and it was a real drop in on my 9100 running XP MC'05 and handles my legacy dongles for my engineering software which are the same architecture as some of yours. They are Canadian company and the cards are built by them. They are a little pricey at (US)$79.99 plus $10 standard shipping or $20 express, but you won't sacrifice the PCIs and it really was a plug and play. FWIW - I did try dumping my fax modem and installing Koutech and then a SIIG PCI I/O card, but both had their issues though and now I'm $tuck with those!
