Please help. Dell Dimension 9150 stop error (0x0000007B)

I have a dimension 9150 whenever I try to boot, it completes POST, then gets to the 2nd windows xp home edition loading screen and on always on the third loading pass it freezes, and my keyboard turns off. Then takes me to a blue screen that shows the following error: STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7B3B524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I believe this is a inaccessible boot device, and i've searched everywhere and no one else has the same 0xF7B3B524 code as me. I ran diagnostics and it passed all tests, also tried reseating all cables and motherboard battery and clearing CMOS. can someone help please?

Since it completes the POST and begins to load XP, the SATA Operation setting in BIOS setup is probably correct. But check that setting by rebooting and pressing F2 to open BIOS Setup. It should be set to RAID AutoDetect/AHCI.

What happens if you reboot in Safe Mode? Reboot and press F8 before Windows starts to load. Select Safe Mode+Networking from the menu.

If no hard drive errors were found by the diagnostics, you can try running a repair/reinstall of XP. You'll need a Windows Reinstallation CD (or DVD) that's exactly the same version of XP (eg, Home or Pro) and with the same Service Pack as installed on the hard drive (eg, SP3). Personal files shouldn't be lost, but you will have to reinstall a lot of updates and hotfixes.

You can also try running these commands from a CMD window to rebuild the boot sectors, but you will need a bootable CD or DVD so you can get to the C:\ prompt.

  1. C:\
  2. Bootrec.exe /fixmbr
  3. Bootrec.exe /fixboot
  4. Chkdsk /r

Press Enter after each command and wait until it finishes and the C:\ prompt reappears before doing the next one. Then reboot normally.

You are aware that Microsoft no longer supports XP so there are no new security updates for it. This might be the time to upgrade to Win 7 or Win 8.1, depending on your preferences and capabilities of this hardware. But you will have to backup all your personal files on external media first and have the installation disks and product keys for all your software available.

XP needs F6 drivers or SATA Operation set to ATA instead of AHCI.

You may receive a "Stop 0x0000007B" error message if your computer is infected with a boot-sector virus. If the problem is intermittent and you can start Windows, check your computer for viruses. If you find a virus, also check any floppy disks for viruses before you use them again.

You may receive a "Stop 0x0000007B" error message in the following scenarios:

  • A device driver that the computer boot controller needs is not configured to start during the startup process.
  • A device driver that the computer boot controller needs is corrupted.
  • Information in the Windows XP registry (information related to how the device drivers load during startup) is corrupted.

Windows XP requires a miniport driver to communicate with the hard disk controller that is used to start your computer. If Windows XP does not supply a device driver for your controller or if Windows XP is using a corrupted or incompatible driver, you must replace the driver with a valid copy that is compatible with your controller and Windows XP.

During the first phase of the Windows XP installation, Setup displays the following message at the bottom of the screen:

Press F6 if you have to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver.

Press F6 and then follow the instructions to install a mass-storage device driver from your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Cause:

This is a Windows configuration issue, most commonly an incorrect storage driver is being used.

Solution:

Make sure Windows is using the correct storage controller driver.

Error received when installing Windows:

Download the current storage controller drivers for your motherboard from the manufacturer's website. Make sure to use the correct drivers for the controller's mode. For example, many boards require the RAID drivers to be used if any of the connected drives are configured in RAID mode. Using the AHCI drivers when RAID mode is enabled can cause this error (even if the drives are not in a RAID setup).

Error received when attempting to boot from a partition that was moved from another Windows XP computer:

Use the Terabyte OS Deployment Tool to install the proper drivers. Click here for more information. Note: The link provided is for the trial version download. The full (purchased) version is not required to install the drivers.
