Power supply pin assignments
Hi
Can someone tell me if the pin assignments for the 24 pin power connector which connects power supplies to the motherboard in all inspiron slim models is the same (530s, 531s, 545s, 546s). What I mean to ask is If I have a TFX (slim) power supply for one of these slim desktop models, does it work with another slim desktop model which might have a different motherboard.
Thanks

Nolinchitnis,
Please refer to the power pin assignments shown here: http://support.feelpcs.com/pc-spec/Inspiron530S/parts.htm#wp1512582
As you can see the power supply pinouts shown for the Inspiron 53x series is the same for the different motherboards shown. The main difference is whether the power supply is an ATX for full-size cabinets or FTX for slimline cabinets. Some older Dell computers such as the Dimension 8100 had entirely different power supplies.
This ad should answer your question: http://www.atxpowersupplies.com/250-Watt-Power-Supply-Bestec-TFX0250D5W.php
As you can see, the same FTX power supply is used in both the 530s and 531s models.
Hope this information helps.

Hi
Tony thanks for the answer and it was helpful to some extent in knowing that the power supply would fit across all 530 slim models. But what about other slim models like 545s, 546s, 531s etc. Would it also be the same. I saw one website where it is mentioned the power suplly you have referred to (TFX0250D5W) is suitable for all Dell slim models : 530s / 531s / 537s / 545s / 546s...refer the link below.

Just wanted confirmation for the same.
Thanks a lot for the answer.

Nolin,
Yes. The same FTX power supply can be used in the models you mentionned. Sorry I didn't make that clearer in my last post.
