Problems with Windows 7 Home premium and DVDRW drives....

I have brought a GX270n secondhand and installed Windows 7, as it came with Windows XP Hone edition, but without any pre-installed software that dell always provides.

Anyhow, following installation of Windows 7 my DVDRW's (2x) worked fine but shortly after Windows 7 up-dates they failed to reconise any disks, can anyone help, with this matter?

I have done all the standard stuff, spoke to Windows, taken it to a local tech shop, updated bios/drivers, updated the DVDRW firmware - still no joy.

I have even gone to the point of ordering new DVDRW drives, as they ones I have are nearly 9 years old, to so if they work (they havn't arrived yet so I cant comment).

My PC Spec is shown in the picture.

Regards, Jonathan

Dell does not support Windows 7 (or Vista) on this older model PC.  Windows XP is the latest operating system.

However, there is a chipset driver listed for Windows XP.  Generally chipset drivers are not Operating System specific, although you may have to install this using a Windows XP compatibility mode.  Install the chipset drivers, restart the PC and see if this helps the optical drive problems.  The chipset drivers identify all the hardware devices on the motherboard and must be installed before installing some device drivers.

Here is the link to the chipset driver  http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=Y4NJD&FileId=2961893832&productCode=optiplex-gx270n&urlProductCode=False

Please list the status of the optical drives in the Device Manager and if there is an error code please list it.
