Hello i recently reformated my computer and reinstalled drivers and such off dell but im having a problem whenever i try to speak on vent or another program like that it outputs whatever i can hear i don't beleive its a problem with my mike since it works on other computers im wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this.

as far as drivers go i downloaded all of them but one isn't working and ive tried the troubleshoot to no avail the driver name is  IDI High Definition Audio CODEC it says the device cannot start [Code 10} i'm not sure if this could cause it but thought mention it

What model PC? What Operating system?  We can't give you specific assistance without that.

In general, when you do a reinstall the sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset drivers (3) Install device drivers including sound, video, etc.  Many omit the chipset drivers and the MUST be installed before installing sound drivers.  One of the many functions of the chipset drivers is to define what is on or attached to the motherboard.

In most cases the retail IDT drivers should not be used, just the "Dell" provided SigmaTel drivers.  Where did you get the IDT drivers?

In most cases you can get by without a complete (correct) install.  Install the chipset drivers, again, and then the Dell SigmaTel drivers.

Both the chipset and SigmaTel drivers can be downloaded HERE

Your PC should also have the Dell recovery partition on the hard drive, that is accessed by CTRL/F11 at boot up.  The Dell recovery will completely restore the PC to the original factory installation.

Someone "CORRECT" me if I'm wrong.

But if you reformat a Computer, this will render the f11 restore feature mine being f8 inoperable?

Sounds like to me this is what happened to it.

Unless you run the restore instead of the Format that will mess everything up. :emotion-12:

I'd try uninstalling all the drivers and then reinstalling them, and if that doesn't work a Complete reinstall seems to be in order...

Uninstall any and all sound drivers that you currently have installed and then restart the PC and when Windows starts, DO NOT allow Windows to install any sound drivers (cancel that function) and when Windows finishes initializing reinstall the Dell SigmaTel drivers.   As I previously noted, most cases you can install the correct sound driver, however in a some cases it will take a complete, correct sequence and driver reinstall.  HERE is the Dell reinstallation procedure.

To answer the other question about reformatting.  If you only format the "C" drive (partition) it will not affect the Dell recovery and diagnostic partitions, on the PC's that have that have the recovery feature.  However, if you remove those partitions and format the entire drive they will be gone.  Those partitions only take up a small space on the hard drive so it should not really be an issue.
