Unless I'm mistaken, which is possible, I think you need the 720 mobo with A03 BIOS to run this. Just a side note, Newegg is not guaranteeing the G0 revision of the Q6600 like some other retailers. If you're buying a Q6600, you should try to buy the G0...it runs cooler, uses less power, and is more overclockable. You can get a guaranteed G0
here. It's also about $25 cheaper than Newegg.

Thanks for the info, however I already purchased it from newegg and now I just have to cross my fingers and hope I got the G0. I am worried about the 700 motherboard. The person that sold me the computer said he tested it with both quad core processor and it worked. He gave me the motherboard part number which is YF432. Maybe that is a 720 motherboard version? I know he said he upgraded to 1.4.1
With that Bios you have a 700 mobo. I am wondering why you don't have the 720 upgrade (it was free). Maybe someone sold you his old board? Dell's official position is that the 700 mobo does NOT support ANY quads. Still, there has been some success testing them with the older quads. I have not seen anyone successfully run a G0 stepping quad in a XPS 700. Keep us posted if it works or not.
Here is a link to the item I purchased on ebay. It says there that it will support quad core processors (which is why I purchased it). Then just in case I decided to email him and he told me he tested it on the 2.4 and 2.66ghz quad core processors. Thats why i am so confused. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280155021936&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=018

You still have a service tag. Look under the front plastic panel below the DVD drives. IF the sticker is gone, go into the Bios. It should be listed there. Your only problem may be that the person who sold it to you already did the upgrade. You need to hurry though. I am not sure how much longer the upgrade program has left. Not long if any.
Not from ebay. It could be a part system and would have no service tag or many other issues so if you buy from ebay and want a service tag you need to make sure you have it not assume it will have one.
Even if it has a service tag it may not be valid.

All XPS 700s have a Service Tag. If it's worn off the case, look in the BIOS. Press F2 when the computer is booting up and see.
Also, you can go to START, right-click 'My Computer' and then click 'Properties'. Your tag is likely to be listed there as well.

It might work but you will have zero support if it acts weird or kills your CPU in a month or two.
Lot's of times Dell will add unsupported CPU's to the 'do not boot' list and you will be greeted with a error on boot up.
In other words, you are on your own with this one.
