RDRAM vs. SDRAM

What is the difference between RDRAM and SDRAM? Is RDRAM worth the extra price of an XPS B?

Thanks.

I heard that most programs being made today don't utilize the capabilities of RDRAM and that the software that will is at least a year away. So unless you are really into gaming I'm guessing it's probably not worth it.

Basically, Intel is angry that VIA has taken away a lot of their motherboard market share, and since their attempt to corner the market with their slot over socket choice has failed, they're trying to regain it through Rambus. Rambus is expensive, prone to failure (due to heat issues), has a much higher latency error rate, and is just not a good choice for most users. Especially since VIA is on the verge of a much cheaper alternative in the form of DDR (double data rate) PC266 SDRAM, which has the same twice-per-cycle function as RDRAM but is much more stable and inexpensive. Bottomline: stay away from Rambus!
