Ram upgrade Studio XPS 435t
I have a Studio XPS 435t , 64 bit Windows 7, with 8 MB of Ram. ( 4 ) 2MB sticks in slots 0 to 3.
I am going to upgrade to Windows 10, and have been told that the 8MB I have is realistic minimum.
Can I add ( 2 ) 4MB sticks to the empty slots, 4&5, or should I put 2MB sticks in them like the others?
Or is there some better solution?

The 435T isn't on Dell's list of systems tested for compatibility with Win 10. That doesn't mean it won't run Win 10, but you could have some driver issues that Dell won't help you resolve. So before you do anything, it would be a good idea to image your Win 7 HDD on external media so you can quickly revert to Win 7, if Win 10 doesn't run right. At the minimum, back up all your personal files on external media. :emotion-5:
Check the manual for installing RAM in the 435T (not MT). You need matched modules in slots 1,3,5 (blue) and matched modules in 2,4,6 (pink). So you can't add 4 GB modules to empty slots 5 and 6 if the other slots have 2 GB modules.
You can get 4x4 GB RAM for this model ~$100+ at crucial.com to replace what you have now. Or you could just buy 3x4 GB to populate the blue slots, and use 3x2 GB of the old RAM (assuming they're all matched) in the pink slots for a total of 18 GB.
Crucial guarantees RAM will work if they recommend the modules for a specific system, or they take it back.
Only you can decide if the cost is worth it for an old(er) PC. And you might want to try out the upgrade to Win 10 first before spending $ on new RAM.

Needless to say, you have really helped me with this undertaking.
I'm going to do the upgrade (after a back up ). After all, I bought this beast because it had so much ability to expand. Time to use it.

I have upgraded my system to Win 10, no issues with anything so far. Next up is to install a SSD and speed it up a tad more.
