Screen went blank after cleaning keyboard

Thanks James I am thinking this  as well. I am pretty sure I have done something on the keyboard when I cleaned it

There are many ways to have a computer black screen and therefore it is very hard to pinpoint your particular problem. Sometimes having this problem can be easily solved, but at other times it is a nightmare and you may need a technician help.

It is possible that the windows on your system may have encountered a problem and as a result the system is not booting into windows. There are several reasons why your system may be having this problem.

To isolate and resolve the issue let us follow a step by step method. As you have mentioned that the cursor does appear on the black screen hence, I would suggest you to initially try the following steps:

1. Boot the system into BIOS (tap the F2 key on the Dell logo screen) and check if the hard drive is being detected.

2. If NO, load BIOS defaults and reseat the hard drive.

If the above mentioned steps fail then boot the system in Safe mode and perform system restore.

If you used Liquid on the machine you likely flooded the inside with cleaner and shorted it out.

There are holes in the keyboard that go inside to allow heat to come out. 

Cleaning should be done with DRY or damp NOT WET material

and only when the machine is off.

You can try to get Windows to revert back to the original settings automatically.  

If the video has become corrupted or an Out of Scan Range error occurs that cannot be automatically corrected,

restart the computer.

Press during startup, highlight Safe Mode from the Startup Menu,

and press to start the computer in Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode, change the screen resolution back to the original settings and restart normally.

Thanks guys none of the above worked but my IT guys at work gave me some shortcuts to try.  So after turning the computer off and rebooting I pressed ctl / alt / f1 and that got me back in.  Thanks for the help though
