Set up speakers

Question

I have a Dimension 2400 with standard speakers and sound card.  I would like to set up an old pair of Altec Lansing speakers.  They consist of two speakers and a subwoofer.  When I plug the speakers into the same spot as the Dell speakers use only the subwoofer works.  When I plug them into the other green speaker connect they do no work at all.

Not much to go on since you don't say what model the Altec's are.  But, normally with a '2.1' speaker system (2 mid/high speakers and 1 bass speaker) there is only one connection to the PC, the Green speaker jack.  The rest is interconnection between the speakers.  Go back and check the speaker to speaker connections and make sure you have them hooked up correctly.  Whether you just have two small 'computer' speakers or if you have a 2.1 speaker system, they are hooked up exactly the same and the PC's speaker selection is the same.
