Sound Problems - CtHelper MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close......

All,

have Dimension 8300, Windows XP Home Edition and running McAfee virus scan, Firewall, Spamkiller. have also installed Win TV 2000 via USB port. Audigy 2 soundcound.

Background

Bought new game last week Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 and installed - everything working fine until last night.

I was running PGA tour and switched user to let my daughter check a word document.

When I went back to the pc later to resume, CtHelper MFC application error message appeared and NO SOUND from speakers - just a hum. No sound either from windows media player, Realplayer etc - sound on Win TV 2000 still fine though!

My daughter assures me that she encountered no problems/anything unusual.

I have tried to Sytem Restore for circa 5 different restore points but all incomplete! So much for restore points!

Have tried various checks - creative diagnostic tests say evertyhing is ok although I cannot try speaker test because I am not given speaker set up to choose from! Volume controls etc on......

Have now run out of ideas and would greatly appreciate help in solving this very frustrating problem.

many thanks in advance

All,

having tried lots of things, including Dell diagnostics (which just told me what I already knew - "No sound from speakers"!), I used the originally supplied Creative Audigy CD supplied by Dell with my used to repair existing installation. Having done this everything seems to be back to normal - fingers crossed.

I seem to have the same problem you described concerning no sound and the message from CtrHelper MFC Application.

Could you please explain in a little more detail what you did to fix it?

Thanks a lot.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem??? CTHelper MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience.:smileymad: ??

I'm getting this message whenever I boot the machine or switch users.. and my audio is completely GONE.. (real player, media player or the Creative Labs player... none of them work any longer) Ive tried the Creative labs site to no avail, and was hoping restoring my machine to an earlier saved  restore would hwlp until I read this message..

cheers

I also managed to solve it by reinstalling the creative CD, I choose to repair without uninstall before reinstalling. Takes a lot of time so be patient.
