Sound Volume Changes When Jump to New Timepoint in RealPlayer or Windows Player
Greetings
I have a "Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)" sound card in the Dimension XPS. When I am playing an audio or video clip in either Real Player or Windows Media Player, and then I click on the time slider to go to a different time point, the volume changes (increases). This happens even if I have muted the volume within the application (real or windows media player)... I jump to a different time point and the volume blares even though the icon in the application says that the volume is muted. I updated my sound card driver from the DELL support web site and it did not help. I am stumped.
Help!

Unfortunately, I believe that you will find it necessary to go to the Creative website and download Creative's drivers.
I say "unfortunately" here because I do not believe that it is wise to download Creative drivers. For a Dell OEM card, Dell drivers ought to be the correct course. Yet, in your case, you will find that the information here and here, and then the subsequent links (and advice) from SI8300 (another poster within those past threads on this same subject) are far more relevant to your problem than anything else.
Apparently, according to Zachary Demian (the lead architect of the Windows Media Player architecture), there is a problem within the Creative Audigy software--and within some Dell computers that have that Audigy. This problem effects the volume sliders for both WMP and Realplayer.
To date, it is my understanding that Demian wrote to the Dell techical departments regarding this issue almost a year ago.
Sadly though if you have attempted to correct for this problem with the proper Dell drivers and it has not worked, then it is also my surprise that Dell has made no effort to correct for this situation.
So, before you download drivers from Creative (as SBI8300 has done) you may find it far more helpful than anything else to contact the Dell Technical Department directly on the phone and ask "some knowledgeable supervisor somewhere" specifically why Dell has done nothing to address this issue with the correct Dell drivers for your card.
g'day,
