Standby and Hibernation issues

Hmm so I'm using an Inspiron530s desktop and have been having this standby/hibernation problems for a few months... The computer resumes itself immediately after it goes to standby. Hibernation worked well and I used hibernation whenever I wanted to put my computer to standby mode..... Unfortunately, hibernation started to experience the same problem two days ago... i.e. the comptuer resumes itself automatically... Any idea what the problem is? Thanks!!

I would check in device manager for devices that are allowed to bring the machine out of standby and disable them.  Candidates are:

1. LAN.  Disable WOL.

2. Modem

3. keyboard and mouse

Did you change anything before the problem started.

What OS?

Thanks!! It's Vista. So I diabled LAN and Modem and it can actually standby now:)  I hadn't changed any of the setting though.

Glad you got it resolved.  Sometimes WOL (wake on LAN) can cause machines never to sleep and then, ironically, never needing to be woken.
