Strange Sound (coming from a fan) when starting computer.

This may not be the cause of your problem but people who are wondering about loud fan noises coming from their computer (have seen many posts): check to see if there is a CD in your drive. Many CD/DVD drives spin up on power up if there is a disc in the drive and will make a very loud fan type noise.

It's easy to overlook this...this happened to me before and I still forgot....recently wondered why my computer suddenly got so loud...

i have the same problem, its basically that your computer is doing a lot of stuff and just getting on its feet, then once it starts up, its back to normal, about the temperature, i really have no idea....

but no that i accomplished nothing in relation to your question, perhaps you could help me out? Does your computer have a voltage switch on the back of the tower, which allows you to chose between 110volts and 220Volts....

Thanks for answering to my question. Regarding yours, yes there is a switch in the back of my computer and it is in 110V. I can choose one of both, because here in Guatemala, Central America it's possible. But as you say, after a while the computer becomes normal and there is no more sound. I think it's normal as you established in your message at first. =)

I had a very similar problem.It was a low pitch whirring noise ,only from cold boot.If I immediately shut down and restarted it was gone.Turned out to be the cooling fan on the Geforce graphics card.
