Studio xps 7100 HDMI Port
I just bought a new Dell monitor and there appears to be no signal when connecting the monitor to the computer via HDMI. Signal works when connecting via VGA but the image quality is poor. Is the HDMI port on the 7100 and HDMI out port? And can I test the port to see if it's working?

What specific Dell monitor model? Look at the rear of the Studio XPS 7100. Do you see a video card ports near the bottom of the chassis? If yes, this means that you have a discrete PCIe x16 video card added to the motherboard slot. The monitor should be connected to it, NOT the onboard HDMI port. Send me the service tag via private message by clicking on my name. I can then tell you what we shipped.

Chris thanks for the reply. I don't have an added video card. But it seems that the HDMI port has started working. I tested the cable on another monitor but still connected to my xps 7100 and it all worked fine. I did download the latest update package for my video card, but it didn't immediately help. The next day I tried plugging in the HDMI cable again using the new monitor and my xps and voila! I had to adjust the scaling to fill the whole screen but things seem to be working.
I did have trouble this morning because the monitor had reverted to the old scaling and I had the change that setting again.
