Task manager has been disabled by your administrator, Windows XP

Task manager has been disabled by your administrator.

I have been having this pop up when ever my computer freezes up and I try  Ctrl, alt, delete with no response. I would like to know what is causing that. How can I fix it?

Thank you

David

I'm no computer guru. We had this happen to one of our Compaq computers. The computer was basically unuseable at that point. We have a daughter that likes to frequent all the popular social network sites. She even clicks on stupid ads that she believes to be official. Our virus software expired at the time and we believed it to be a virus. We just ran a disk recovery on the computer and started from scratch. Everything was fine after that. Of course, we updated the virus software to make sure it didn't happen again. So far, so good. It's been about six months with no problems.

Perhaps - but:

If you can get a copy of malwarebytes to install (www.malwarebytes.com), run it -- and keep running it until it ceases to detect malware.

Other trick -- copy the task manager (taskman.exe) from the Windows directory to your desktop.  Many malware programs lock it when it's run from its native place but aren't smart enough to do the same if you run it from another location.

Do a Google search on Task manager has been disabled by your administrator and you will find numerous possible solutions to this problem, including several from Microsoft support, such as this one:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555546
