USB 2.0 Devices work on USB 1.1 ports?

I have an older model desktop and it has USB 1.1 ports. If I purchase an external DVD burner that is USB 2.0, will it work on my USB 1.1 ports?? I don't want to get stuck with a DVD burner that isn't going to work! Thanks in advance for any help!

A "qualified" yes.  Most USB 2.0 devices are backward compatible with 1.1 ports and the only issue will be the data transfer speed, which will be at the 1.1 speed.  However, not all devices are really compatible. Some of it is the PC and some is the device itself.  If you are going to buy an external drive, buy it somewhere that has a liberal return policy in case you can't get it to work or work properly.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. That sounds like really good advice about the return policy. I am glad I asked first because I just assumed that they would automatically be backward compatible with only a speed difference.

you can always add a USB 2.0 Card in your computer, if you have an available slot.

Carolyn, Thanks, I don't know why I didn't think of this myself. I will just go ahead and buy the USB 2.0 card. This way I won't have to worry about compatibility and I will get the higher speed as well! Thanks again.
