USB 2.0 High Speed (HI-SPEED) Ports
Hi all,
I have a new (about 2 months old) Dimension 8400. It's running Windows XP Pro SP2 and so far hasn't had any problems. I just bought an MP3 player that supports high speed USB 2.0 data transfers. When I plugged it in, Windows gave me a popup balloon warning me that I had attached a HI-SPEED device that wasn't plugged into a HI-SPEED port. If I click the balloon, I get a listing of 8 available high-speed ports but connecting the device to any of my 8 USB ports attaches it to one of the other 4 USB Universal Host Controllers, not the Enhanced controller.
I found that someone reported a similar problem on the Inspiron forum and tried the suggested solutions. Their situation, like mine was that there were several Universal controllers and 1 USB2 Enhanced controller. The suggested replies included downloading and installing the latest chipset drivers (tried that) and uninstalling the devices from the Device Manager and rebooting (tried that, too). Neither of those methods worked. I also tried forcing one of the other controllers to use the "Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 265C" but Windows said the "device wouldn't start."
I have the following devices listed under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section in Device Manager...
- Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2658
- Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2659
- Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265A
- Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265B
- Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 265C
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub
Anybody have any other ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Ben
