USB Legacy

I am not able to restart my Dimension 2100 while my USB Mouse & Keyboard are connected.I reach a screen that says Keyboard detected... USB Legacy enabled. If I disconnect my Mouse and Keyboard the computer boots into WindowsXP just fine.
Anyone know how to fix this problem. Thanks

I would try switching the port the mouse and keyboard are plugged into.    If you are using a USB hub then try the mouse and keyboard plugged directly into the computer.  Another alternative is to use a PS/2 style keyboard and try disabling the USB Legacy option of the BIOS Setup.

Thanks for responding. Switching the ports didn't work. I guess I need to buy another keyboard although this one works if I connect it after the compter boots up.How do I get into BIOS setup and disable the USB Legacy option

Unfortunately you will need to use a keyboard at boot up to press the DEL key to enter the BIOS Setup.  Click here for the link to your model's on-line User Guide and the section pertaining to the BIOS Setup.  The downside to disabling the Legacy USB setting is that the keyboard will no longer be BIOS supported during boot up operations.  Since you can't use the keyboard anyways during boot up I guess it won't make much difference whether this setting is disabled.

If you want to use the USB mouse/keyboard, leave legacy USB on and look in BIOS for an option for "USB NO BOOT". Possibly the PC is trying to boot from those devices, which obviously it can't, and stalls until each one times out.

Thanks for responding Majestic & RoHe. I can boot up with the mouse & camera attached but not the keyboard. I'll try your suggestions... though BIOS Setup looks a bit confusing .

If this is a new system, ask Dell to replace the keyboard if changing ports and BIOS settings doesn't fix the problem. And/or try another USB keyboard. Possible the keyboard is bad.

I do not see an option that says USB No Boot.. USB Legacy is enabled in my BIOS so I guess the problem is my keyboard. What I don't understand though is why does my keyboard work if I connect it after the pc boots into windows.
