Unplugged tower, now won't turn on

No good deed goes unpunished.  I yanked the power strip cord from the wall outlet yesterday during an electrical storm.  We had not experienced any lights flickering or momentary outages.

Now I can't get the desktop to do anything.  The green LED light on the back of the computer that is normally always on is unlit.

This is a Dell Inspiron 530.

Is the power supply wrecked?

Thanks

Hi oldgaloot,

Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum.

May we know what is the status of the power button?

Do you hear any beeps when the system is powered on?

Please private message us the service tag of the system.

Kindest Regards,

You can try this:

  1. Power off and unplug power cord from rear of PC, not just from the wall
  2. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  3. Reconnect power cord to PC
  4. Try to boot now

Because you have some power reaching your unit, try RoHe's answer above.

I had tried this before and got nothing.  I replaced the power supply and all is right with the world. :emotion-1:

Thanks for your response, though!

4 beeps is a RAM error. So reseat RAM modules in their slots and use canned air to blow out the dust bunnies.

If that doesn't help, try each module, one at a time in slot 1 to see if you can ID a bad module...
