Upgrading graphics card in a Dimention XPS gen 3 ....

HIS HD 2600XT IceQ Turbo 512MB GDDR3 PCIe Dual DVI

here is the link to the card i want..

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?HIS-26XTT5#

my question is, is this card going to be compatible with my machine? will it up the performance and if so how significantly will it do is? is it worth spending £80.

Thank you to any one who takes the time to help me out I really do appreciate it

OK! but have u red the clock speed of that card? its like 1800 mgz or something and it has duble the ram than my existing card gurther more it is direct X10 compatable so it is leagues ahead on my card i have non. how come it wont speed things up to well?

On second thought I would get a Radeon X1950 PRO unless direct X 10 is must the I would get a 8800 GT 256.

Yes that would be a fine card. I have the same system I put a 8800 GTS in mine and the sytem could not keep up with the card. So save your money and get the 2600 xt.

so this 2600XT wil work on my XPS 3 then? the system is not to old to have a modern card in it?

fishywishy seams to think i am waisting my cash buying that card i was told that the card i curently have whitch is the radeon X800XT is just as good and thee wil not be mutch performance diferance ??? that confused me a littl bit, i no my curent card runns 520mgz with 256 ddr3 ram in it but as i say the spec on the HIS HD 2600XT IceQ Turbo 512MB GDDR3 PCIe sounds good, it has a cor clock speed os 830mgz and the memory clok is 1860MHz whitch is loads compaired to the x8000xt ... but as long as the card wil run on my system withought bottlnecking to much and is going to make boost my frame raites by a fair bit i wil get it, i want to beable to play the next gen games with some exitment hehe

Well the 2600 XT is not a gaming card. Check this out and spend some time deciding. http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/01/03/the_best_gaming_graphics/

Any of the new cards will work but the 2600 XT only has a 128 memory bus and you 800 xt has a 256 memory bus. I think for your price range the Radeon X1950 PRO will give you the best performance.

That chart would be even better if you could choose your cpu as well.

First, listen to what the others posted about recommended cards vs the 2600XT.  Secondly, the price of that card on novatech.co.uk is WAY too high.  I don't know if EVERY card is higher price accross the pond, but that price is rediculous.

Consider:

The EXACT same card is on newegg.com as the card which you posted, but the price is only about £71.

All this feed back is fantastick than you all... :) i have looked at al the cards you have advised me on, now i am just confused, so now here is a question to you all...the oridional card i was loking at has 256mb the cars that was recomended to me only has 256mbs so how is that going to be a faster card? please 4give me i realy do not understand theas things to well, i am like most people who see more ram there 4 faster card type thing.

however here is another question then... if momey wasnt to much of a problem, what would be the best card to go for - for The Dell Dimention XPS gen3 with 2gig of ram 3.4 mgz P4 prossesor, bearing in mind, i dont want a card that superseeds the computer, and the pc cannot utalise the card to its fullest potential.

there is no point in paying £250-£300 or so, for a card that is hamperd by the pc its self.
You people seam to know what u are talking about so i will go with what the majority tells me :)

TurboShane has recomended theX1950pro so far but that was bering in mind my budget :)

what has acused me to want a new card by the way is all baced on one game i have Crysis :) its real hot and i want to beable to apreciate the graphics on atleast the medium setting with faster frame raites, the game runs ok set to medium now but when the cool action bits kik in it jumps and becomen horid to play, even set to the low settings, it is a real pitty as this tytle fosters some real HOT visuals...
