Vostro 470 Dual Monitor

Hi

I am trying to connect a second monitor to this desktop.

Windows 7 Pro.

I have one DVI port that works very well for the current monitor. This is the port for the installed AMD Radeon HD 7570 adapter.

There is a second, VGA port on the backof the computer that I would like to use to connect a second monitor.

When I connect the second monitor to the VGA port and turn the system on, I get a black screen on this second monitor with a message that the system is set to use the DVI port for the AMD card?

The first monitor that is connected to the AMD DVI port remains black and in low power mode during this process?

Is there any way to use both the DVI and VGA port for a dual monitor setup?

Hi

Thank you for the reply.

I tried all of those steps and was still seeing that same error?

I finally found the answer in the User Manual ( I should have looked there first). :emotion-7:

There is a setting in the Advanced section of the BIOS called Intel Muti - Display that is disabled, by default.

Enabling this setting fixed everything, as soon as I restarted and followed your instructions, both monitors were working.

Hi Marti,

The VGA port being used to connect the second monitor is for the integrated graphics.

The AMD Radeon HD7570 graphics card has two native ports, Display Port (DP) and Dual Link DVI-I. You may try to configure the second monitor using the steps provided below.

  • VGA - connect the DP to VGA dongle from DP connection of video card to monitor (1), then connect the DVI-I to VGA adapter from DVI-I connection of video card to monitor (2).
  • Dual DVI - connect the DP to DVI-I dongle to the DP connection of video card, then connect the DVI-D cable to the monitor (1), then connect the DVI cable to DVI-I connection of video card and monitor (2).

Note: You may have to use a DP to VGA dongle, DVI-I to VGA or DP to DVI-I dongle.

Once the connections are made, try the steps below to configure the second monitor.

  • Go to ‘Control Panel’ and click ‘Display’.
  • Click the ‘Settings’ tab.
  • Select the Monitor icon identified by the number 2.
  • Click ‘Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor’.
  • Set the ‘Screen Resolution’ and ‘Color Quality’ as appropriate for the second monitor.
  • Click ‘Apply’ to apply these new values.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further assistance.
