Want to upgrade M60

First, why is memory for this thing so friggin expensive??? 2 gigs will run nearly 700 bucks, I can buy a whole desktop computer for that!!

Second, I have the 1.5 ghz (centrino) cpu, is it possible to put in one of the new 2 ghz cpu's?

Thirdly, I have the Nvidia Quadro 700 video chip, will one of the new 1000 chips work in my box? would it be worth it to upgrade this?

And, fourthly, I know where to get the memory but where would I get the cpu & video chips? These are things I dont see at places like Tiger online etc.
Would replacing these chips myself void my warranty?

Thanks for any help

no problems on any BIOS updates; I pop the second hard drive in the laptop when i do a fast disk clone; if I've got my DVDRW+- in the laptop, then I put the hard drive enclosure in my external D/Bay (which plugs into the powered port on the right side) or slide it into the slot on the D/Dock.

Ah, I guess the external D-bay is another thing to consider.
I gotta renig my previous statement on drivers. I did find
some Go700 drivers that began with "R", they were earlier versions,
the latest one (A05) is labeled N31GDA05.EXE

Yes; however the N series drivers are neither WHQL certified, nor particularly optimized for performance on the nv31 & nv36 GPUs.

The 56.72 (R82002) drivers are outstanding on the Go700 & Go1000 GPUs.

Guess I'll go with the "R" series then, thanks for the tip

Hi...I've just joined this forum.

I bought an M60 in December and I'm very happy with it.  I am interested in CPU upgrades too, and I've been offered some Pentium M 1.8Ghz (SL6FH) for £49.99 ($93.74) each.

Will these work in my machine which has a 1.4Ghz chip, and are they reasonably easy to fit?

Thank you.

Hey y'all,

I have just bought an M60 with a 1.4GHz Pentium M. Would someone be so kind as to check out the processor at the following link and tell me if I can upgrade to this, without any excessive fiddling:

And to the last poster:

1.8GHz for £50 - got any spare?!
