What is the highest spec cpu for Dimension 4100?

1 GHz P3. You can use a 1.4 GHz P3 with a POwerLeap adapter, if you're willing to flash the INtel BIOS (which will mean you'll need a new copy of WIndows if you ever want to reinstall).

The 1.4/133 P3 is still fairly expensive - well over $100 - plus the adapter; it may not make economic sense on a system worth only about $100.

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I have recently installed a dvd burner and as the performance dropped when handling video my first option was to look at the cpu since I have the max of ram.

The product spec sheet states 1.1ghz processor and that would be a socket 370.

You should be able to use a DVD burner, depending on what exactly you are doing. I use my 4100 for DVD encoding all the time with no trouble. What are the rest of your system specs? A fast hard drive and adequate RAM is also important.

I've managed to write some DVDs but I noticed progress in preparing them was painfully slow even when all other apps were closed.  I use 384MB of RAM supplied by Dell and have about 50GB spare disc space.  Using Nero under W2K.
